June C. Squadrito passed away early Thursday morning at the Kindred Crossing care facility in New London, surrounded by her loving children, grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Born in Stafford Springs in 1926, the daughter of Ivano and Mary Cini, June grew up in Mystic with her brothers Hector, Ezio, and Attilio who pre-deceased her. After attending New London School of Hairdressing and working at Bostich, June spent many happy years in the Groton public school system, working at both Carl C. Cutler and Robert E. Fitch Senior High. She then went on to work at the Town of Groton town clerk’s office from 1983 until her retirement in 1993.
Married to the late Robert V. Squadrito for 26 years, June leaves five adoring daughters and their spouses. Missing her will be Debra and Dale Peiffer of Newington, CT, Lauren and Wesley Davis of Palm Coast, Florida, Roberta and Walter Newton of Ledyard, Jana and Herb Wagner of Canterbury, and Tina and the late Kenneth McLauglin of Mystic. Also missing her will be grandchildren Noelle and Holly Maynard, Rebecca and Rachel Rippey, Lazaryn and Maxx McLaughlin, Katie and Christa Allen, and great-grandchildren Gregory and Shyla.
June loved music and was a talented pianist. While she loved animals of all kinds, she was particularly devoted to her beloved kitties and was forever finding homes for those in need. She was an avid fan of the N.Y. Times crossword and the most challenging of jigsaw puzzles and felt most at home surrounded by the beauty of the woods and pond in her own backyard.
Her family wishes to express their sincere gratitude to the entire staff of Kindred Crossing where June received incredibly loving and compassionate care during her many years as a resident of the Alzheimer’s unit. Their extraordinary efforts not only gave comfort to June, but peace of mind to her family. Both the staff and residents of the unit will be fondly remembered.
Arrangements are private and the family requests that in lieu of flowers a donation be made to the All Friends Animal Hospital Angel Fund, 420 N. L. Turnpike, Norwich, 06360, or an animal welfare charity of the donor’s choice.
