Obituary

Dorothy (Avery) Clark, age 82, of 5 Spicer Hill Road, ledyard, died Wednesday morning at Lawrence & Memorial Hospital after a brief illness.

She was born on July 12, 1920 the daughter of Andrew M. and Goldie (Davis) Avery. She was a graduate of Norwich Free Academy.

An accomplished musician, Mrs. Clark served as organist at the Ledyard Congregational Church for over 50 years. She also volunteered her time and musical talents at area nursing homes and the Ledyard Choir. In earlier years, she was a musical therapist at Norwich State Hospital . She was a member of the Ledyard 4-H and the Ledyard Grange.

She also served as the first lady bus driver in the State of Connecticut. Dot was also known for her soap making skills and had given demonstrations at local schools for many years.

She was a loving wife, devoted mother and grandmother who took great pride in her family, and often referred to herself as “the troublemaker”.

She is survived by her husband, George P. Clark, a daughter, Carolyn Clark of Ledyard, her grandchildren, Krista, Jason & Scott Rainey, all of Ledyard, a great-grandson Johnathan Rainey of Ledyard, 2 sisters, Charlotte Geer of Norwich, and Vivian Williams of North Stonington. She was predeceased by her daughter, Delia Clark and a brother, Andrew Avery.

A Memorial Service will be conducted at the Ledyard Congregational Church, Rte. 117, Ledyard Center on Friday at 11am. A reception will immediately follow at the church. Burial will be private in the church memorial garden.
