Francis B. “Ben” Welch, 78 of Winchester, died Monday in the Winchester Hopital.
He was born in Winchester, the son of the late Frank and the late Catherine Regan Welch. Mr. Welch was a lifelong resident of Winchester. He was a graduate of Winchester High School and a product of the Winchester Public school system.
He served in WW II as a torpedoman´s mate in the US Navy.
Mr. Welch married the late Marjorie Brennan.
Ben, as he was known to all who knew him was a lieutenant with the Winchester Fire Dept. for 32 years until he retired in 1981. He was a member of the Winchester VFW. and associated with the Tin Can Sailors from WW II.
In addition to his late wife Marjorie, he leaves his son Edward B. Welch and his wife Lorraine of Winchester and his daughter Julianne R. Welch and her husband William A. Laun of Hampstead, NH., two loving grandchildren Mary Julian and Thomas B. Welch, a sister Mary McNaught of Byfield and a brother John Welch from Winchester, and the late Helen Welch, David Welch and Eileen O’Donnell.
Funeral services from the McLaughlin – Dello Russo Funeral Home, 60 Pleasant St. Woburn Friday at 10:30AM. Followed by a funeral mass celebrated at the Immaculate Conception Church, 79 Sheridan Circle, Winchester at 11AM. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend and may call at the funeral home Friday morning from 9:30 to 10:30AM. Services will conclude with burial at Calvary Cemetery, Woburn.
