Methuen, MA – John P. Suzedelys, 88, died unexpectedly Sunday at the Lawrence General Hospital.
John was born in Methuen, son of Adam and Mary (Asterpovich) Suzedelys, and was a “1938” graduate of the Edward F. Searles High School.
For more than 20 years he had been employed as a Tester with Western Electric of North Andover before retiring in 1983.
During World War II John served his country in the U.S. Army and was the recipient of the American Theatre Campaign Ribbon, the European African Middle Eastern Theater Campaign Ribbon and was awarded the Victory Medal, before his honorable discharge at wars end. .
John grew up on the farm begun by his immigrant parents.
After World War II, he returned there to build a home, where he raised his family with his beloved wife Rose. He kept a lifelong interest in farming, and gardening, loved reading, and avidly pursued self-education. His greatest sources of pride and happiness were his children and grandchildren.
He is survived by his wife of 60 years Eva Rose (Gagnon) Suzedelys.
Survivors also include daughters Cynthia L. and husband William Coughlan of Bradford, Julie A.. Sidon and caring friend Craig Gerry of Heath and Gloucester, MA., grandchildren Michael J. and his wife Lynn Coughlan of Leominster, MA, and Ryan W. Coughlan of New York City, N.Y.
John was predeceased by his brother Stanley Suzedelys.
A Mass of Christian burial will take place on Thursday morning at 10 o’clock in Saint Monica’s Church with burial to follow in Elmwood Cemetery of Methuen.
Friends may pay their respects on Wednesday from 5-8 P.M. at the Kenneth H. Pollard Funeral Home, Inc. 233 Lawrence Street in Methuen.
