Rita K. Dowd, of Methuen, formerly of Andover, died at the Holy Family Hospital on Friday, May 2, 2008. She was 89 years old.
Born in Andover, she was the beloved daughter of the late Michael and Jenny (Callahan) Dowd. Rita was a graduate of Punchard High School, class of 1937 and was employed at Graybar Electric in Boston for more than 40 years. She was a longtime member of St. Augustine Church in Andover and also a member of the Ladies Guild at Merrimack College for many years. In her spare time she enjoyed traveling and sailed on the Queen Mary.
She will be sorely missed by many nieces, nephews and cousins. Rita was pre-deceased by her loving siblings, Thomas Dowd, Mary McDougall and Louise Dowd and one nephew, Michael McDougall.
Her Funeral Mass was celebrated in St. Augustine Church, 43 Essex Street, Andover, Wednesday, May 7, at 10:30 AM. Many relatives and friends respectfully attended. Visitation was Wednesday, prior to the mass, from 9 to 10 AM. Burial was in St. Augustine Cemetery, Andover. For additional information, please visit, www.burkemagliozzi.com.
