Maxine York Watkins, born July 5, 1931 in Marion County (Guin), Alabama, died peacefully at home on May 1, 2008. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, May 6, 2008, at New River Baptist Church. Rev. Jason Jones will officiate with burial to follow in Oak Ridge Cemetery. Michael Luck, Brannon Burroughs, Grant York, David Brooks. Charles Newell and Mark York will serve as pallbearers. The family will receive friends on Monday, May 5, 2008, from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Bowen-Donaldson Home for Funerals.
Ms. Watkins was the daughter of James Buck York and Ethel Draper York, both deceased. She was also preceded in death by her beloved son, Duane Kevin Watkins, who died on April 26, 2008. She was a retired plant assigner for Southern Bell and a member of New River Baptist Church in Tifton.
Ms. Watkins is survived by Duane’s wife, Crystal Hunt Watkins of Orangeburg, South Carolina; her daughter, Danise Burroughs-German of Albuquerque, New Mexico; her daughter and son-in-law, Renita and Michael Luck of Albany; her grandchildren, Brannon and Sharon Burroughs of Sandy Springs, Audrey Luck of Albany and Kirsten Burroughs-German of Albuquerque, New Mexico; two brothers, DeOttis York and Clifton York; and her twin sister, Essilene York Allgood.
Mama will be missed, but while our hearts ache, our spirits soar with the free assurance of her completeness in Jesus Christ, now and forever.
