Obituary

Mr. Salvatore J. "Sam" "Lefty" Balsamo, age 79, died Thursday morning, May 1, 2008, at Winchester Hospital after a lengthy illness. Born in Lawrence, MA, Sam was the devoted son of the late Antonina (DiMauro) & Matteo Balsamo.

Salvatore, also known as "Sam" or to his many friends in Lawrence, as "Lefty", was a Union Carpenter working for the Frank Chase Co. of Avon, MA for many years. A Woburn resident for the last 15 years, he was formerly of Salem, NH and Lawrence. Raised and schooled in Lawrence, he attended the Holy Rosary Grammar School and graduated from Lawrence High School.

Sam was a member of the Salem, NH VFW and the BSV German/American Club of Walpole. Retiring in 1991, Sam enjoyed golfing, swimming and gardening in his backyard. He loved watching red sox games and patriots games on sundays. But most of all he really enjoyed spending time with all his beloved grandkids.

Sam is survived by his beloved wife Inge (Frank) Balsamo. Devoted father of Linda Ferguson and her husband Steven of Billerica, Heidi Morris and her husband Brian of Nashua, NH. Loving grandfather to Hayley Ferguson, Caitlyn, Olivia, Matthew, Alyssa, and Jack Morris. Brother of Grace Mistretta of North Andover, Josephine DiPaolo of Methuen and the late Millie Balsamo. Also survived by many loving nieces and nephews.

Funeral from the McLaughlin-Dello Russo Funeral Home, 60 Pleasant St., Woburn, Monday at 9 AM. Followed by a funeral mass celebrated in St. Barbara Church, 138 Cambridge Rd. Woburn at 10 AM. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend. Visiting hours Sunday 4 thru 8. Services will conclude with burial at Calvary Cemetery, Woburn.

It has been requested that in lieu of flowers memorial contributions be made to the Lymphoma Research Foundation, 115 Broadway, 13th Floor, New York, New York 10006.
