Richard E. Cope, 47, of New Bedford passed away Sunday, April 27, 2008, unexpectedly at home.
Born in New Bedford, son of Richard Sylvia of New Bedford and the late Judith (Nelson) Foster, he had lived in New Bedford for most of his life. He was a commercial fisherman for various vessels in the New Bedford Fishing Fleet. He enjoyed fishing, horses, walks along the beach and long drives, his dream was to have a log cabin and live in the mountains. Mr. Cope loved being with his family and friends and the time he spent with his fiancé.
Including his father, he is survived by his fiancé: Catherina S. Papadakis of New Bedford; a son: David Cope of Fairhaven; 4 brothers: Bill Cope of New Bedford, Ken Cope of FL, Paul Vaughan of Plainville and Neal Edward of AZ; 4 sisters: Cathy Furtado of Fairhaven, Lisa Lynn Sylvia of New Bedford, Lori Sylvia of Boston and Nicole Sylvia of New Bedford; and several nieces and nephews.
He was brother of the late Jon Cope.
Memorial service to which relatives and friends are invited will be Saturday, May 10, 2008 at the Seamen’s Bethel Church, 15 Johnny Cake Hill, New Bedford at 11:00 A.M.
