Janet V. (O’Brien) Burns, 69, of Norton died on Wednesday April 30, 2008 at the Milton Health Care Center in Milton. She was the former wife of the late James L. Burns, Sr.
Born in Central Falls, Rhode Island on June 24, 1938 she was a daughter of the late Linus and Dorothy (Doucette) O’Brien.
She grew up in Seekonk, was educated in Pawtucket schools and was a graduate of Tolman High School in Pawtucket.
Mrs. Burns was a retired jewelry worker and was employed at Whiting & Davis in Plainville for several years. She had formerly worked as a waitress at the former Twin Lanterns also in Plainville.
When younger, Janet was a communicant of St. Mary’s Church in Seekonk. A homebody, she enjoyed gardening in her yard, bird watching and most especially spending time with her devoted family. She had made her home in Norton for the past 32 years and was a former resident of Plainville.
She is survived by her loving children; Jeffrey L. Burns of Attleboro, William E. Burns of South Attleboro, Kimberly A. Burns of Myrtle Beach, South Carolina, Karen L. Harrison of Attleboro, Mark D. Burns of South Attleboro and the late James L. Burns, Jr., her cherished grandchildren; Derek W. Burns, Nicholas R. Burns, Briana J. Burns, Brittney E. Harrison, Andrew J. Harrison, Eric L. Burns and Lilly A. Burns. She was the sister of James O’Brien of Central Falls and the late Daniel P. O’Brien, also survived by several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services, to which relatives and friends are cordially invited to attend, will be held on Tuesday May 6th at 10:00 A.M. at the Norton Memorial Funeral Home 19 Clapp St.(Off Route 140, Taunton Ave.) Norton. Burial will follow in the Norton Common Cemetery, Norton.
Visiting hours will be held on Monday May 5th from 5-8 P.M. at the Norton memorial Funeral Home.
