Normand J. Laferriere, 94, of Oakton St., Woonsocket, died Tuesday at Landmark Medical Center. He was the husband of 59 years of Flore (Belisle) Laferriere.
Born in Woonsocket, he was a son of the late Oscar and Roseanna (Paquin) Laferriere. He was a lifelong resident of the city.
Mr. Laferriere served in the U.S. Army during WWII in the Pacific Theater.
Prior to WWII, Mr. Laferriere worked for the Blackstone Dye Works, and following his service, he was employed for many years by E.C. Chagnon Floor Covering, in Woonsocket, and later the N.L.B. Flooring Co., in North Smithfield, prior to retiring in 1976.
Mr. Laferriere was a member of the Club Richelieu of Woonsocket, and a longtime communicant and usher at Our Lady Queen of Martyr’s Church.
As a proud graduate of Mt. St. Charles Academy, Normand was a devout Mount Hockey fan and attended most all Mount games for many decades.
Normand was passionate about his backyard garden, known as his “Plantation”. Every year relatives and friends could count on receiving a share of his bounty of vegetables.
Normand was a generous man with his time, and was known to always lend a hand to a neighbor in need, especially with winter snow blowing and shoveling.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by a daughter, Jeanne-Anne Laferriere, of Narragansett, a son-in-law, Robert Geruso, of North Smithfield, two grandchildren, Christopher Geruso, of GA, and Michael Geruso, and his wife April, of NJ, and a brother, Jules Laferriere, of Woonsocket. He was the father of the late Suzanne M. Geruso, and brother of the late Joseph, Yvette, Pauline, Vivian, and Constance Laferriere. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews.
His funeral will be Friday at 9:00 am from the Menard Funeral Home, 127 Carrington Ave., Woonsocket, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 am in Our Lady Queen of Martyr’s Church, Park Ave., Woonsocket.
