LONDONDERRY, NH: Robert C. Read, 70, passed away Monday April 28th, 2008 at his home in Londonderry. He was the husband of Phyllis (Greene) Read. Mr. Read was born on June 30, 1937 in Boston, MA a son of the late Ruth (Mason) and Rufus C. Read. Mr. Read had resided in Londonderry for the last 40 years, and was self- employed as a printing broker for Robert C. Read and Company for the last 30 years until retiring in 2006. Mr. Read was a member of the Nashua Choral Society, the Founding President of the Rotary Club of Londonderry, and a former Board member of the Boys and Girls Club in Derry and a member of First Church of Nashua. He was a 1957 graduate of Everett H.S. Mr. Read served his country in the U.S. Army.
Mr. Read is survived by his wife of 42 years, Phyllis G. Read; one son K. Matthew Read and his wife Jennifer of Southborough, MA; one daughter. Leslie M. Read of Boston, MA; two sisters, Alice I. Read and Doris R. White, both of Franklin, NH; two granddaughters, Emily M. Read and Alexis M. Read both of Southborough, one sister in law and several nieces and nephews. Mr. Read was pre-deceased by his brother Carmon Read.
Following cremation, calling hours were held Friday May 2nd from 4-6 at the Peabody Funeral Homes and Crematorium, 290 Mammoth Rd. Londonderry. Funeral service followed at 6 PM in the funeral home. A graveside service was held Saturday, May 3rd at 11 AM in Newton Cemetery, Newton Center, MA. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Rockingham VNA Hospice, 137 Epping Road, Exeter, NH 03833 or the Rotary Club of Londonderry Scholarship Fund, PO Box 451, Londonderry, NH 03053.
