Obituary

Worcester- Walter H. Bercume Jr., 84, of 57 Fairmont Avenue, died Saturday, Feb. 22, in St. Vincent Hospital at Worcester Medical Center, after an illness.

His wife, Lorraine C. (Girard) Bercume, died in 1994. He leaves a daughter, Jeanne M. Wentzell of Boylston; a brother, Roland E. Bercume of Worcester; his companion, Pauline E. (Gagnon) Shilinsky, with whom he lived; 2 grandsons, 4 great grandchildren; nephews and nieces. A brother, Albert Bercume, and two sisters, Loretta W. Hubert and Lorraine W. Hair, predeceased him. He was born in Worcester, son of Walter Bercume Sr. and Corrine (Byron) Bercume, and lived here all his life.

Mr. Bercume was a machine operator at Norton Company for 40 years, retiring in 1980.

He was a World War II U.S. Navy veteran, serving in the Pacific.

Mr. Bercume was a member of St. Joseph's Catholic Parish, and a former member of its Social Club and Parish Council. He was a member of the American Legion, the Disabled American Veterans, the Ionic Avenue Boys Club Alumni, the Sutton Senior Center, and the Greendale Retired Mens Club.

The funeral will be held Wednesday, Feb. 26, from Dirsa-Morin Funeral Home, 298 Grafton Street, with a Mass at 10 a.m. in St. Joseph's Church, 35 Hamilton Street. Burial will be in Worcester County Memorial Park, Paxton. Calling hours are from 5 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 25, in the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made the Boys & Girls Club, 2 Ionic Avenue, Worcester, MA 01608.
