Obituary

Chester A. Blomgren, 85, a resident of North Bay Manor, died there Friday, April 25, 2008, following an extended period of failing health. He was the husband of Goldye M. (Detwiler) Blomgren of Smithfield, R.I.
Born in Boston, Jan. 3, 1923, a son of the late Knute and Signe Blomgren, he lived in the greater Boston area for many years, and lived in Medway and Attleboro before moving to Smithfield.
Until his retirement in August 1983, Mr. Blomgren worked as a postal service employee for several area post offices for more than 40 years.
He served in the U.S. Army during World War II. He was honorably discharged in September 1943.
Mr. Blomgren was a deeply involved church man. He looked for opportunities to serve the Lord. He very much enjoyed being a deacon at the former First Baptist Church in Franklin. He enjoyed the Bible along with his wife, whom he met in Bible class in Providence, R.I. They were married in the First Baptist Church in Foxborough, Sept. 2, 1962. Mr. and Mrs. Blomgren visited many area nursing homes, reading the Bible and singing with residents. They had no family of their own, thus church and the Bible sustained them.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend his funeral Wednesday, at 11 a.m., in Grace Baptist Church, 69 Beaver St., Franklin. Interment will follow in North Purchase Cemetery in Attleboro.
Calling hours at the Charles F. Oteri & Son Franklin Funeral Home, 33 Cottage St., www.franklinfuneral.com, are Tuesday, 5 to 7 p.m.
