Rose A. (Gilgunn) Strano, a lifelong resident of Charlestown, died on Saturday April 26, 2008 at her home in Charlestown following a lengthy illness. She was 90 years old.
Rose was born in Boston, she grew up in Charlestown where she attended Boston Public Schools and graduated from Charlestown High School in 1935. Rose dedicated her life to her beloved husband and raising her children. Rose was a member of the Charlestown High School Home & School Association, The Charlestown Garden Club, The Old Charlestown Schoolgirls Association and Friends of The Charlestown Library.
Rose is the dearest and loving wife of 70 years to Emanuel "Manny" Strano. She is the devoted mother of Frances Fitzgerald and her husband James, Mary (Keating) Fidler, Rose Howell and Vincent Doherty all of Charlestown, Joseph Strano and his wife Joanne of Everett, Theresa Boston and her husband Steve of California and the late Emanuel and Boston Firefighter Anthony Strano. She is the loving grandmother of 19 grandchildren and 19 great-grandchildren. She is the beloved sister of Helen Kelly of Charlestown, John Gilgunn of Melrose and the late Mary Civilikas, Thomas, James and Joseph Gilgunn.
Rose's Funeral will be held on Wednesday April 30, 2008 at 9 a.m. from The Carr Funeral Home, 220 Bunker Hill St. Charlestown followed by her Funeral Mass in St. Mary's Church, 55 Warren St. Charlestown at 10 a.m. Relatives and friends are invited. Visiting hours for Rose are on Tuesday April 29, 2008 from 4 to 8 p.m. Burial will be at Woodlawn Cemetery, Everett.
