Robert L. Gibbons
...Iron Workers Local 7, WWII Veteran; 86
TEWKSBURY - Robert L. Gibbons, age 86, a resident of Tewksbury for five decades, died peacefully at his home Sunday afternoon, April 27, surrounded by his family, following a brief illness. He was the husband for 61 years of Katherine A. (McCormack), who died in July, 2006.
He was born in Brighton, a son of the late Howard L. and Alice (Fraelick) Gibbons, and raised in Brighton and Somerville. He enlisted into the U.S. Army during WWII, and served with the 1st, 3rd, and 9th Armored Divisions in the liberation of France and the Rhinelands. He had lived in Tewksbury for the past 50 years.
He retired from Local 7 of the New England Iron Workers Union, and worked on most of Boston's skyline buildings, as well as other projects throughout New England.
He was a former member of the Reading Veteran's of Foreign Wars.
He is survived by his children, Robert H. Gibbons and his wife Margaret "Peggy," Stephan A. Gibbons, and Leslie A. Gibbons all of Tewksbury; eight grandchildren, Nathan Gibbons, Joel Gibbons, Robert "Rob" Gibbons, Juliane Gibbons, Tracy Joyce, Stephen Gibbons, Kevin Gentz, Kerry Gibbons, eight great grandchildren; a sister Phyllis Gould of Tewksbury; sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law, Frances Connors of Reading, Andrew "Bud" McCormack of Brockton, and Mary McCormack of Medford; and many nieces and nephews.
He was also father of the late Kevin Gibbons and brother of the late Richard "Dick" Gibbons.

Following his cremation, a Memorial Service was held Monday, May 5, in the funeral home.
