Obituary

Mr. Eugene E. Sweeney III, age 73, a life long resident of Woburn died April 22nd following a lengthy illness. Born in Woburn he was the son of the late Eugene E. and Veronica J. (Kane) Sweeney.

Mr. Sweeney resided on Buckman Street in Woburn for most of his life. He was a 1952 graduate of Woburn High School and in 1956 he graduated from Boston College and later received his Masters Degree in Education from Salem State College. Following his graduation from Boston College Mr. Sweeney began teaching math at Woburn High school and remained there for 25 years and transferred to the Joyce Middle School where he taught for twelve more years before retiring.

Mr. Sweeney was an avid sports fan and especially enjoyed the Boston Bruins and was a season ticket holder for 45 years. He also enjoyed the race track and taking trips with friends to Saratoga Springs, NY. It has been requested that in lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made in Eugene's memory to the Woburn High School Scholarship Fund, P.O. Box 202, Woburn, MA 01801-0302

Mr. Sweeney is survived by several cousins. He is also survived by his good friends, Rev. Francis Keaney and his brother Terence Keaney both of Woburn.
His funeral was held from the McLaughlin - Dello Russo Funeral Home 60 Pleasant St. Woburn, Saturday, April 26th, at 9:30 a.m. followed by a funeral mass celebrated in St. Barbara Church 138 Cambridge Rd., Woburn, at 10 a.m. Relatives and friends were respectfully invited to attend and visit with the family at the funeral home Saturday morning from 8:30 a.m. to 9:30 a.m. Services will concluded with burial at Calvary Cemetery, Woburn.
