Obituary

Maurice T. “Mike” Lee, a life-long Medford resident, died Friday at Glen Ridge Nursing Care Center. He was 86.

Mr. Lee was born and raised in Medford, the son of the late Michael and the late Mary (Murray) Lee. Mr. Lee graduated Medford High with the class of 1939. He went to work with New England Telephone and Telegraph, installing telephones. When war broke out, he joined the Army and served from 1942 to the war’s end. His experience brought him from the beaches of Normandy through Ardennes to Germany. Among his decorations was the European Campaign Ribbon with five bronze battle stars. After the war he returned to the phone company where he worked for 44 years, becoming a district manager. He was a member of the Disabled American Veterans and the Telephone Pioneers. Most of all Mike was a dedicated family man who cared for his wife, children and grandchildren.

He was the beloved husband of Ruth (Ellsworth) Lee. He was a devoted father to Maureen Crowley Smith, Nancy Wallace, both of Medford, Michael Lee and his wife Rita of Ware, Richard Lee and his wife Cheryle, Edward Lee and his wife Elaine, John Lee, James Lee and his wife Eileen, all of Medford, Dennis Lee and his wife Lori of Reading. He is lovingly survived by 20 grandchildren and 6 great-grandchildren. He was a dear brother to Mary Barry, the late Margaret Weitz and Grace Lee.

His funeral will be from the Dello Russo Funeral Home, 306 Main St., Medford, Tuesday at 10 AM followed by a funeral mass celebrated in St. Francis Of Assisi Church, 441 Fellsway West, Medford, at 11 AM. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend. Visiting hours Monday 4 - 9. Services will conclude with burial at Oak Grove Cemetery, Medford.
