Obituary

John Joseph Walsh, of Carver formerly of Plymouth, 83, passed away on April 19th at home. Mr. Walsh attended Roslindale High School and then joined the U.S Marine Corp and the U.S. Navy serving in WWII. He qualified as a combat parachutist in the Marine Corp and qualified as a shipboard fire fighter in the Navy. After the military, he was a fire fighter for the Boston City Fire Department, Local 718. John was a member of the American Legion Post 40 where he was a member of the color guard and a past officer of the E Board, the society of St. Florian,and a member of the Liar's Club. He enjoyed fishing, golfing, cooking and especially spending time with his family and grandchildren. He is the beloved husband of the late Geraldine M. (Hawkes) and father of the late William M. Walsh, he is survived by his loving children, John J. Walsh Jr. of Plymouth, Michael G. Walsh of New Jersey, Lawrence P. Walsh of Dover, NH, Annette McGourty of Plymouth and Gale Barton of Plymouth. He also leaves 11 grandchildren and 13 great grandchildren. A funeral mass will be held on Friday April 25th at St. Bonaventure’s Church in Plymouth at 10 AM followed by burial at the Mass. National Cemetery in Bourne. Visiting hours will be held at the Richard Davis Funeral Home, 619 State Rd (Rt. 3A), Plymouth (Manomet) on Thursday April 24th from 2 to 8 PM. In lieu of flowers, donations in his memory may be made to the American Heart Association, 20 Speen St, Framingham, MA 01701-4688, the American Lung Association, 460 Totten Pond Rd, Suite 400, Waltham, MA 02451 or to the New England Home for Little Wanderers, Development Department, 271 Huntington Ave, 2nd Floor, Boston, MA 02115.
