John J. Sivik, 83, of Derry, NH, died Saturday, April 19, 2008 from complications of emphysema in the Parkland Medical Center in Derry. Mr. Sivik was born in Lawrence, MA on June 22, 1924, a son of the late Joseph P. and Marianna (Godojsz) Sivik, both of Poland. He was a resident of Derry for 80 years, formerly living in Lawrence, MA. Mr. Sivik was a WWII Army veteran. He owned and operated Johnny's Barbershop in Derry since 1946, where he enjoyed giving advice and opinions for 50 plus years. Mr. Sivik was a member of the American Legion Post #9 in Derry, and a member of the Knights of Columbus at St. Thomas. He enjoyed deep-sea fishing, cooking, and was interested in books and documentaries regarding WWII, especially the South Pacific where he was stationed as a surveyor.
He is survived by his wife, Anne (Yurkovich) Sivik of Derry; four daughters, Mary Anne Marshall of Manchester, NH, Juanita Violet Sivik of Henderson, NV, Stephanie Mastro of Manchester, NH, and Paula Raymond of Peterborough, NH; one grandson, Marcel Raymond of Greenfield, NH; as well as several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his grandson, Thomas J. Flood.
Following cremation, calling hours were held on Friday, April 25th from 9:30 - 11am in the Peabody Funeral Homes and Crematorium, 15 Birch St., Derry. A memorial service followed at 11:00am in the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Alzheimer's Association, Chapter Headquarters NH Office, 1 Bedford Farms Dr., Ste. 105, Bedford, NH 03110 (from which his mother suffered).
