Raymond R. Champoux, age 73, died Sunday morning at his home in South Lowell following a courageous battle with cancer. He was the beloved husband of Lorraine D. (Maher) Champoux, with whom he celebrated 50 years of marriage on March 23rd..
He was born in Lowell on October 8, 1934, son of the late Romeo & Irene (Marcotte) Champoux. He received his education in the Lowell School System.
Mr. Champoux served in the US Army during the Korean War until his honorable discharge as a Corporal in 1962.
Prior to his retirement, he worked for over 20 years as a machine operator at General Electric of Lowell. Previously he had worked for Canada Dry Beverage Co. of Waltham.
A lifelong resident of Lowell, Raymond was also a communicant of St. Joseph's Shrine downtown.
Besides his wife, he is survived by a son, Raymond D. Champoux of Lowell; a grandson, Leo Spinney; a granddaughter, Rebecca Champoux; three sisters and a brother-in-law: Claire & Marcel Dupont of Lowell, Annette Boutin of Lowell, and Theresa Dusault of NY; two sisters-in-law, Yvette and Rita Champoux, both of Lowell; also many nieces & nephews. He was the brother of the late Ernest, Henry, and Leo Champoux, Rita Jennison and Lillian Giguere.
Relatives & Friends will be received at the M.R. LAURIN & SON FUNERAL HOME, 295 Pawtucket St., Lowell on TUESDAY from 4 to 8pm. Funeral Wednesday with procession gathering at the funeral home at 9:00 am followed by committal prayers at St. Joseph Cemetery Chapel in Chelmsford at 10:00 AM. For those who wish, donations in his memory may be made to the American Cancer Society or VNA Hospice of Greater Lowell.
