George C. Pittman, 87, of Fitzgerald formerly of Atlanta, died Sunday, April 20, 2008, at Dorminy Medical Center in Fitzgerald.
Graveside services will be held 2 P.M., Tuesday, April 22 in Westview Cemetery in Atlanta with military honors given by the U.S. Marine Corps. Rev. William Pope will officiate. The family will receive friends from 1-2 Tuesday Afternoon in the Abbey Chapel of Westview Cemetery.
Mr. Pittman was born March 27, 1921 in Atlanta, Georgia to the late Henry and Eunice Mills Pittman. He was educated in the Atlanta Public Schools and graduated from Tech High School in 1940. He was a World War II veteran of the U.S. Marine Corps and was among the 60,000 troops that invaded Okinawa, Japan on April 1, 1945. He retired from Addressograph-Multigraph (DataCard) in 1987. He was a member of Satilla Baptist Church in Irwin County.
He is survived by his daughter and son-in-law: Martha & Danny Coley of Fitzgerald; three grandchildren: Dana Coley Stout and husband, Kevin; Kimberly Coley Pate and husband, Don, and Robert Brent Coley and wife, Becca; four great-grandchildren: Hunter Pate, Coley Stout, Parker Stout, and Micah Stout as well as two sisters-in-law: Edna Pittman of Decatur and Annie Webb of Atlanta and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his wife of sixty years: Ruby Webb Pittman in 2002; his son: George Carlyle “Buddy” Pittman, Jr. in 1994; four brothers: Joe, Clayton, Lovette, and Max Pittman; and one sister: Martha Ella Pittman.
