...Korean War Disabled Veteran,78

FARMINGTON,NH - James E. Brown Jr, age 78, died Saturday, April 19, 2008 at Frisbee Memorial Hospital in Rochester, NH, after a brief illness. He was the beloved husband of Dorothy A. (Durant) Brown with whom he celebrated his fifty second wedding anniversary on April 1 this year.

He was born in Boston on November 23, 1929, a son of the late James E. Sr. and Margaret (Rudd) Brown. He was raised in West Roxbury, raised his family in Tewksbury, and retired to Farmington, NH and Clearwater, FL in 1993.

He was a disabled Korean War Veteran. He served in the United States Marine Corps, was honored with a Purple Heart, and was one of the Chosin Few. He attended Lowell Technical College and Fitchburg College and worked at Polaroid for twenty eight years before retiring. He was an accomplished woodcarver and oil painter. He was active in several organizations including: NEC Chosin Few, Marine Corps League, DAV Post 110 in Tewksbury. He was formerly a coach in the Tewksbury Youth Baseball League and volunteered for the St. Williams Drill Team.

He is survived by four sons, James E. Brown III and his fiance Joanne Peltonovich of Haverhill, David J. and his wife Robin (Scamman) Brown of Dracut, Timothy P. and his wife Maria (DaSilva) Brown of Farmington, NH, Daniel G. and his wife Elena (Lazaris) Brown of Groton; two brothers, George Brown of Lowell, William and his wife Diane Brown of GA; a sister, Lillian Szablinski of AZ; five grandsons; five granddaughters and many nieces and nephews.

His Funeral Mass was celebrated Wednesday, Apr. 23, in St. William's Church, Tewksbury. Burial with USMC honors followed at Tewksbury Cemetery. Memorial contributions to the: Chosin Few, New England Chapter, c/o John Gutermuth, Jr., 23 Kettering Rd., Norwood, MA 02062-1602, , will be appreciated.
