Manchester– Helen M. (Niemiec) Cates, 86, died April 18, 2008 at Hanover Hill Healthcare Center after suffering a stroke.
She was born in Manchester on March 7, 1922 the daughter of Sylvester and Anna (Krol) Niemiec, and had been a lifelong resident of the city.
She graduated from Manchester Central High School class of 1941.
She was employed by 7/24 Tobacco Co. and later worked for J.M. Fields as well as Llewellyn’s.
She was a 45 year member of the Amoskeag Grange, and Hooksett Grange. She was also a member of Holy Trinity Cathedral.
She enjoyed traveling to Quebec, Niagara Falls, Las Vegas, and to the New York World’s Fair. She also enjoyed doing word search, working on her flowers, and her dog ”Kippy”.
She was a very kind, sensitive person and always remembered everyone’s birthday with a hug and something nice.
She was predeceased by her husband of 50 years, William Cates who died in 1999.
Family members include a son Edward W. Cates, of Manchester, several nieces, nephews and cousins.
Services: calling hours will be from 2 to 4 pm on Sunday at J.N. Boufford & Sons Funeral Home, 110 Bridge St.
Funeral services will take place at 4 pm on Sunday in the funeral home. Burial will be in Holy Trinity Cemetery, Goffstown.
