Obituary

MEREDITH

John “Jack” Lynch, 76, of 388 Daniel Webster Highway died February 20, 2003 in the Lakes Region general Hospital after a brief illness. He was born in Lawrence MA on March 28, 1926, the son of Edward P. and Cora (Fortin) Lynch.

He served his nation in World War II by joining the Marine Corps at the age of 17 and earned the rank of Corporal. Along with many classmates, friends and family he served in the Pacific theatre and was a witness to many unspeakable tragedies as well as many human victories against the original axis of evil.

“Jack” always spoke with heart-felt pride of the Corps and the fact that history honors their sacrifice to God and Country with the notation that they are part of the “Greatest Generation”. To his brothers in arms he was “semper fidelis”

He was a member of the American Legion, Griggs Wyatt Post #33 of Meredith and the VFW Post 1670 of Laconia and was dedicated to their idea of “We Will Never Forget” those comrades who were POWs or did not return home from the war.

His wife, Catherine (Dwan) Lynch died in 1989. In addition he was pre-deceased by a son, John Lynch in October 1994.

Family members include two daughters, Ruth Fisher of Meredith and Kathleen Fontaine of Derry NH; two sons, Patrick Lynch of Andover MA and Michael Lynch of Meredith; six grandchildren; four great grandchildren; a sister, Marguerite Fournier of Moultonborough NH; nieces and nephews.

There are no calling hours. A Memorial Mass was celebrated in St. Charles Church, Daniel Webster Highway (Rte. 3) Meredith on Saturday, March 1 at 10 AM. Urn burial will be at a later date in the family lot in Holy Sepulchre Cemetery in North Andover, MA. The Simoneau & Lambert Funeral Home, 139 Church St., Laconia is assisted the family with arrangements.
