Obituary

On Thursday, April 10, 2008, Kathleen M. Lamir, a 46 year resident of West Roxbury, died at St. Luke’s Hospital in Jacksonville, FL, of pneumonia while receiving treatment for breast cancer.

Born in Boston, Mrs. Lamir grew up in the Roslindale neighborhood where she attended Boston Public Schools and was a graduate of Boston Girls Trade School. A professional seamstress, she sewed military uniforms during WWII and taught sewing throughout her working career. Mrs. Lamir had also worked as a teacher’s aide in the Boston Public School Dept.

She was a Eucharistic Minister at St. Theresa’s Church, West Roxbury and a member of the West Roxbury Art Association.

Funeral from the P.E. Murray-George F. Doherty & Sons Funeral Home, 2000 Centre St., West Roxbury, on Saturday at 9 AM. Funeral mass in St. Theresa’s Church, West Roxbury, at 10 AM. Burial will follow in New Calvary Cemetery, Mattapan. Visiting hours on Friday from 4-8 PM at the funeral home.

Mrs. Lamir, affectionately known as “Katie” to her family and friends, is survived by her husband of 60 years, William J. Lamir Sr., and five children, Patricia A. Lamir of New South Wales, Australia, William J. Jr. of Darnestown, MD, Stephen A. of Jacksonville, FL, Francis J. of Ashburn, VA and Joseph E. of Atlanta, GA. She also leaves her siblings, Frank McCauley of CA, Ellen Foley of West Roxbury and JoAnn Nestor of SC. Mrs. Lamir’s first child, Kathleen M. (Kitty) Lamir died when she was twelve.

In lieu of flowers the family suggests memorial donations for breast cancer research be made to Susan G. Komen for the Cure, 5005 LBJ Freeway, Suite 250, Dallas, TX 75244.
