George Grady Medford, Jr., 92, of Tifton died Wednesday, April 16, 2008, at Tift Regional Medical Center. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, April 19, 2008, in the Memorial Chapel of Tifton's First Baptist Church. Dr. W. Ches Smith, III and Dr. Wayne Roe will officiate with burial to follow in Oak Ridge Cemetery. Flynt Owens, Pete Garvey, William McDonald, Albert Potts, Jim Butler and Milt Johnson will serve as pallbearers. The family will receive friends on Friday, April 18, 2008, at Bowen-Donaldson Home for Funerals.
Mr. Medford was born on January 11, 1916 in Cook County and was the son of George Grady Medford, Sr. and Mary Ann Baker Medford, both deceased. He was also preceded in death by one sister, Mary Jo Garvey. He was a retired farmer and a member of Tifton's First Baptist Church. In past years, he served as a deacon of Tifton's First Baptist Church; was a member of the original Board of Director's of Brother Charlie's Rescue Mission and the Georgia Sheriff's Boys Ranch in Hahira; and a member of the Tifton Kiwanis Club for 30 years.
Mr. Medford is survived by his wife of 70 years, Christine "Teena" Burdett Medford of Tifton; one brother and sister-in-law, H. C. and Jean Medford of Tifton; one sister and brother-in-law, Sara and Bob Burnett of Tifton; and several nieces and nephews.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial donations be made to a favorite charity.
