LOWELL— Kenneth A. Hall, age 73, died at his home on Sunday, April 13, surrounded by his family, following a courageous battle with cancer. He was the husband of Maureen (McKay) Hall, originally of Andover.
Mr. Hall was born on January 25, 1935, the son of the late Mary (Mullin) Ballard and Malcolm Hall, and was a proud life-long resident of Lowell. He attended Lowell High School and upon graduation served in the U.S. Naval Reserve during the Korean Conflict. He later attended Merrimack College.
Ken worked for the Raytheon Corporation for more than 45 years. During his tenure with the company, he was a member of the team that manufactured the computer guidance system for the historic Apollo XI mission that landed Neil Armstrong and Edwin Aldrin on the moon. He also led the NATO Sea Sparrow project in Brussels, Belgium and Naples, Italy and contributed to a number of other projects critical to U.S. national security including the Patriot Missile Defense System. Prior to his retirement, Mr. Hall also played a major role in the improvement of radar surveillance for international air traffic control systems from Harlow, England.
After retiring, Mr. Hall enjoyed his grandchildren and was a regular volunteer in the Lowell Public Schools introducing elementary school children to a love of science.
Besides his wife, he is survived by four children: Kenneth Hall, II, of Lowell; Christopher Hall, and his wife Jeannine, of Dracut; Mary Ellen Teague, and her husband Lawrence, of Lowell; and Cheryl Amey, and her husband Robert, of Westborough, MA; seven grandchildren: Matthew Hall, Nicholas and Benjamin Hall, and Jennifer, Christopher, Ryan, and Jonathan Brown.
He was predeceased by his brother, Richard Ballard.
Friends may call on Wednesday, April 16th from 4 to 8 PM at the MAHONEY FUNERAL HOME, 187 Nesmith Street (Rte. 38). His Funeral Mass to be offered on Thursday, April 17th at 11AM at the IMMACULATE CONCEPTION CHURCH. Burial in St. Mary Cemetery, Tewksbury.
