Alton A. Smith 88 died Friday April 11th in his home after a period of failing health. He was the husband of Ione D. (Oswell) Smith.
Born in Whitman he was the son of the late Frank and Mary (Hathaway) Smith he remained a life long resident of Whitman and was a farmer on “Smith’s Farm”.
He worked as a leather tanner for Columbia Tanning of Brockton for 30 years.
In addition to his wife he is survived by his sons Donald Smith and his wife Sheila of Hanson, Gerald Smith of Whitman, his daughter Judith Lemon of Plymouth, and his brother George Smith of Stoughton.
He is also survived by many grandchildren, great grandchildren and nieces and nephews.
Private services were held by request of the family. Donations my be made in his name to the Old Colony Hospice, One Credit Union Way, Randolph, MA 02368.
