Suzanne M. Callaghan of Mystic passed away at Westerly Hospital on April 12, 2008.
Born on December 17, 1940 in Brooklyn, NY, Sue was raised in Brooklyn until her family moved to New Bedford, MA in 1957. She spent her senior year at Holy Family High School in New Bedford and graduated in 1958. A year later, she received her certification as a Medical Technologist at St. Luke’s Hospital in New Bedford.
In 1962 she married Joseph T. Callaghan and moved to Cheshire, CT where they raised their family. In Cheshire she enjoyed a 30 year career as a realtor. Sue and Joe retired and moved to Mystic in 1999. Sue loved sailing and working in her garden. She was also an avid reader.
Sue and Joe enjoyed 46 years of marriage. Besides Joe, she is survived by her son, Joe III of Branford, her daughter, Elizabeth, of San Francisco; four grandchildren, Isaac, Danielle, Moira Belle, and Sally Faye; two sisters, Marguerite Petit of Frankfurt, KY and Jacqueline Gonsalves of Dartmouth, MA; two brothers, Donald Van Cleft of Victorville, CA and Jon of Stratford, CT.
Family and friends are asked to gather for a memorial service at The Dinoto Funeral Home, 17 Pearl Street, Historic downtown Mystic on Wednesday at 11am.
