GLOUCESTER: Ronald P. Cusick, 67, died Saturday, April 12, 2008 in the Addison Gilbert Hospital following an extended illness.
Born in Gloucester on March 3, 1941, he was the son of the late Robert W., Sr. and Priscilla (Sawyer) Cusick. He was a graduate of Gloucester High School and had resided in Gloucester most of his life.
He was a decorated U.S. Army veteran, having served three tours of duty in Vietnam and twenty-two years of service to his country. He was awarded The Bronze Star Medal for heroism in ground combat, The Army Commendation Medal for his performance of exceptionally meritorious service in support of the U.S. objectives in the Republic of Vietnam and The Meritorious Service Medal for exceptional meritorious service while assigned to the U.S. Army Readiness and Mobilization Region VI.
Following his retirement from the U.S. Army, Ron worked at Varian in Gloucester for ten years.
He is survived by his father, Vito G. Benedetto of Gloucester, two brothers, Robert W. Cusick, Jr. of Gloucester and David “Skip” Cusick of Cape May, New Jersey, three sisters and brothers-in-law, Joyce E. and C. Michael O’Maley of Gloucester, Marjorie and Larry Meinerth of Winter Haven, Florida and Marilyn A. Misuraca of Gloucester, an aunt, Rosemarie Sawyer of Gloucester and many nieces, nephews and great-nieces and great-nephews.
Visitation will be held on Thursday evening in the Pike-Grondin Funeral Home, 61 Middle Street, Gloucester from 5 – 8 p.m. Relatives and friends are cordially invited to attend. Funeral services will be privately held at the convenience of the family. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in his memory to the Alzheimer’s Assoc., 311 Arsenal St., Watertown, MA 02472.
