Obituary

LOWELL—Mary (Dery) Mahoney, 102 years old, a lifelong resident of the Lowell, died Thursday afternoon in Lowell. She was the wife of the late Allan T. Mahoney, who died in 1962.

She was born in Lowell, a daughter of the late George C. and Elizabeth (Daley) Dery, and was educated in the Lowell School System.

Mrs. Mahoney was a former employee of the Telephone Company, Lowell General Hospital and Tewksbury Hospital. She was an active member of many local organizations including: past president of the Holy Rosary Sodality of the Immaculate Conception Church, past president of the Ladies of St. John’s Hospital, and member of the Poor Clare Guild, and Oblate Club. She was a member of the Catholic Golden Age and a former chairperson for the Lowell Table of the Boston Board of the Infant Savior. She was also a member of the Retired State, County and Municipal Employee Association, a Director of the Friends of St. John’s Nursing Home, and a member and past president of the League of Catholic Women. She volunteered for the American Red Cross, the former St. John’s Hospital, and the Lowell Fire Department, in the Fire Chief’s Office. She was a communicant of the Immaculate Conception Church in Lowell.

She is survived by two daughters and sons-in-law: Mary and Paul Pepin, of Tewksbury; Eleanor and William Harrington, of Lowell; a son and daughter-in-law: Allan G. and Pauline (Webb) Mahoney, of Hampstead, NH; a brother: George Dery, of Chelmsford; nineteen grandchildren: Mary Pepin Kennedy; Anne Pepin Millerick; Eleanor Pepin DeBlasio; Paul Pepin; Michelle Pepin McNaught; Allan Pepin; William Harrington; Kathleen Harrington Leistikow; Mary Ellen Harrington; Diane Harrington Fokas; Richard Harrington; Sheila Harrington Ledoux; William Mahoney; Kathleen Mahoney Goulakos; Shawn Mahoney; Michael Mahoney; Kelley Mahoney Michaud; Erin Mahoney Camara; and Allan T. Mahoney; forty-one great grandchildren and one great-great grandchild; as well as several nieces and nephews.

She was the sister of the late Elizabeth (Dery) Caten, who died in 1995 in Florida, and Albert Dery, who died in 1976, both formerly of Lowell.

Friends may call on Sunday, April 13 from 2-6 PM at the MAHONEY FUNERAL HOME, 187 Nesmith Street (Rte. 38). Her Funeral Mass to be offered on Monday, April 14 at 11 AM at the IMMACULATE CONCEPTION CHURCH. Burial at St. Patrick Cemetery, Lowell. In lieu of flowers, donations in her memory may be made to the Oblate Infirmary Fund; 486 Chandler Street; Tewksbury, MA 01876.
