Obituary

Gertrude “Trudy” Dyer, 94, of Laguna Woods CA, formerly of Mystic, passed away peacefully at home on Sunday, April 6, 2008.

Trudy or "Cookie" as she was known to her family, was born in Lynn Massachusetts on March 15, 1914, the youngest and last remaining of the ten children of John Vandenberg and Mary (Page) Vandenberg.

She was predeceased by her husband Rodney W. “Bill” Dyer. She leaves behind two sons, Doug Marshall and his wife Bonnie of Mystic and Norm Marshall and his wife Candy of Laguna Beach, California; two grand children and 1 great-grandchild.

Trudy attended Hotel and Restaurant school of Cornell University and spent many years in the restaurant business in the Boston area as well as here in Mystic. In 1963, with her husband Bill, they opened and operated the Mystic Motor Inn and the Floodtide Restaurant (now the Inn at Mystic). As a legacy, although now under different management, the inn and restaurant are still one of the premier inns and restaurants in New England, a tribute to Bill and Trudy’s foresight. Trudy retired from the business and relocated to the South Shore of Boston upon the passing of her husband Bill in 1968 and then later to California where she made her home since 1996.

Arrangements and internment will be private and at the discretion of the family. To share a note of remembrance or condolence with her family, please click the link below.
