LOWELL: Alice J. (Newcomb) MacLaren, age 74, a resident of South Lowell for the past 9 years, died Sunday, April 6, 2008 at the D’Youville Senior Care Center in Lowell.
She was the wife of Lloyd MacLaren, who died in 1990.
Born in Needham on November 29, 1933, she was the daughter of the late Cyril and Carolyn (Gould) Newcomb.
Alice was raised in Billerica, attended Billerica schools and graduated from the former Howe High School in 1952.
She resided in Rockport for 16 years and Tewksbury for 31 years until moving to South Lowell in 1999.
While living in Tewksbury, she attended the Tewksbury United Methodist Church.
Prior to her retirement in 1988, she was employed as an assembler by the M.K.S. Instrument Company of Burlington and Andover. She previously worked for the Raytheon Company in Waltham for 6 years.
Mrs. MacLaren was a member, past board member, receptionist and volunteer of the Tewksbury Golden Age Club and Senior Drop-In-Center.
According to her family she enjoyed the many hours she spent at the senior center and took advantage of the numerous opportunities and activities offered including bunka and tamari stitching classes, assisting at fundraisers, attending club yard sales and breakfast socials, day trips to Maine and a cruise that went through the Panama Canal.
Alice is survived by three sons, Bryan S. MacLaren and his wife Faith of Londonderry, NH, Ricky N. MacLaren and his wife Jean of Lowell and Gregg A. MacLaren and his wife Dawn of St. Petersburg, FL; three grandchildren, Erin MacLaren of Londonderry, NH, Ross MacLaren of Lowell and Emma MacLaren of St. Petersburg, FL; one sister, Shirley Stonesifer of Florida; also many nieces and nephews.
Mrs. MacLaren was the grandmother of the late Ian MacLaren and sister of the late Harold and Donald Newcomb.
Relatives and friends will be received Wednesday, April 9th, 4:30-7:30 p.m., (G.A.C. Service at 4:30 p.m.) at the Farmer & Dee Funeral Home, 16 Lee St., Tewksbury. At her request, funeral services will be private. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions to the Tewksbury Senior Center, c/o Building Fund, 175 Chandler St., Tewksbury, MA 01876 are suggested.
