David Pyne Cameron, 82, of Mattapoisett, formerly of Winchester, died Wednesday April 2, 2008 at St. Luke's Hospital in New Bedford. He attended Winchester Public Schools and proudly served his country as a United States Marine in the Pacific Theater during World War II.
During his distinguished career in the cutting tool industry, Mr. Cameron represented several international companies and ended his career as president of Morse Cutting Tools in New Bedford. Following his retirement, he devoted his many talents to serving the Greater New Bedford community he so loved.
Among his various positions were President of the Board of Directors and Trustee of St. Luke's Hospital, where he worked many years in the Emergency Department as a valued volunteer, and the Board of Directors of Compass Bank, Junior Achievement an the United Way. His dedicated community service was recognized with a variety of awards including the first William J. Cabral, Jr. Memorial Award for outstanding commitment to volunteerism and community service from the Greater New Bedford United Way and the University of Massachusetts-Dartmouth Chancellors Distinguished Service award in recognition of dedicated service as a businessman, community leader and volunteer.
Mr. Cameron was the widower of Elinor C. Cameron, to whom he was happily married for over 50 years. His survivors include Deborah and Edward "Mud" Ruel and David and Joanne Cameron, all of Mattapoisett, Dianne and Thomas Starr of Hanover, PA, and Dale and James Barnes of Mobile, AL; ten grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
A Memorial Service is planned for May 3, 2008 at 10 AM in the Mattapoisett Congregational Church, 27 Church St., Mattapoisett, with a reception in the church hall immediately following the service.
