Obituary

Terence J. Sweeney, Sr., 87 of Andover, died Monday, April 07, 2008, at his home. He was the loving husband of the late Virginia F. (Clancy) Sweeney.
Born in Lawrence, he was the son of the late Francis J. Sweeney of Montreal, Canada and Mary Kate (Geoghegan) Sweeney of Drumshanbo, County Leitrim, Ireland.
He was raised in Andover and attended St. Augustine School and Punchard High School. He served in the Army Air Corps as a transport plane radio operator in the Aleutian’s during World War II. Early in his career, he worked at Marland Mills, Phillips Academy and the Andover Press. He retired from the Internal Revenue Service in 1983.
He took great interest in his family and enjoyed working on his yard as well as discovering and corresponding with his relatives around the world, including traveling to meet relatives in County Leitrim, Ireland.
He is survived by his son Terence, Jr. and wife Diane of Merrimac and grandson Christopher and wife Patrice and their children Kyle and Deven; his son Kevin and wife Gina of Andover and grandchildren Brian and Tara; his son Sean and wife Elizabeth of Lawrence and grandchildren Jorma, Eian and Morrgan; and his sister-in-law Alice Clancy of North Reading.
A memorial service was held in the Burke-Magliozzi Funeral Home 390 North Main Street, Andover, Friday, April 11, 2008, at 7 PM. Many relatives and friends respectfully attended. Calling hours were Friday, April 11, 2008, from 3 to 7 PM.
