Obituary

Kathleen A. (McGovern) Driscoll, 91, formerly of Andover, Massachusetts died peacefully on Saturday, April 5, 2008.

In 1916 Mrs. Driscoll was born at her family's farm in West Andover, Massachusetts to her beloved parents Sylvester A. McGovern and Catherine A. (McKallagat) McGovern. She remained an Andover resident for most of her life until moving to Southport Island, Maine to live with her son Tim in 2002.

Mrs. Driscoll, known as "Kaye" attended Punchard High School in Andover, and was a graduate of Lawrence High School. In 1938, at the age of twenty-two, Kaye and her three siblings founded McGovern's Pharmacy which eventually was located on Tower Hill, Lawrence. Her brothers Arthur S. and Richard A. McGovern and her sister Mary Eileen (McGovern) Arsenault were all involved in creating a successful family business. Kaye was the driving force that propelled McGovern's Pharmacy to success and she would ultimately become the on-site Pharmacist.

In 1952 Kaye was awarded a BS in Pharmacy from the New England School of Pharmacy in Boston (now Northeastern University) and in the same year became a registered Pharmacist in Massachusetts.

Kaye was especially close to her sister Mary Eileen who predeceased her in 1964. She is survived by her brother Dr. Richard A. McGovern of Lawrence.

In 1953 Kaye married Thomas B. Driscoll, Sr. and in 1955 they settled in a lovely home in Andover which remained the family home for fifty years. Tom Driscoll was founder and part owner of Fay & Driscoll, Inc. and the founder of Driscoll Tire, Inc.

Kaye sold her ownership interest in McGovern's Pharmacy to her brother Arthur and she became a homemaker dedicated to raising her children.

Kaye and Tom were actively involved with their children, were members of various community organizations, and Saint Augustine's Church in Andover. They enjoyed traveling and maintained a summer residence in Hampton, New Hampshire. Tom passed away in 1986.

Kaye's long life was filled with the love of family and friends. In addition to her brother, surviving members of her family include six children: Katherine A. Street of Hampton, NH; M. Coleen Simari of Salem, NH; Timothy D. Driscoll of Southport Island, ME; Cyd Elizabeth Cohen of Uxbridge, MA; Richard A. Driscoll of Coto de Caza, CA; Sara J. Johnson of Nantucket, MA; a step daughter, Nancie Chamberlaine of Cape Coral, FL and nineteen grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
