Obituary

Elizabeth B. Rutherford, of Winchester, passed away peacefully March 30, 2008 at the Winchester Nursing Center after a long illness. Born April 7, 1920, in Chicago Illinois, she was the daughter of Florence Agalia Baxter (Sellon), born 1883 and Henry Chester Baxter born 1886. She graduated from Northwestern University Chicago, Illinois. After college Elizabeth worked at Grumman Aircraft where she was involved in the design of the F6F Hellcat and the Corsair fighter planes. She married Seymour S. Rutherford Jr. shortly after the war and raised two children. Elizabeth was also an accomplished artist working in the mediums of pen and ink and watercolors. Elizabeth moved to Winchester in 1959 and dedicated her life to helping others. She was active in the Parish of Epiphany where she volunteered for many activities and was a well-known figure in the quilting group. Elizabeth also did volunteer work with the elderly and provided travel assistance. Elizabeth leaves a daughter Agalia A. Rutherford of Winchester, MA, a son Lawrence W. and his wife Laurel A. Rutherford of Manchester, CT, two grandchildren, Eric B. and his wife Katrina Rutherford of Bangor, ME and John Rutherford of Brewer, ME and three great grandchildren, Izaac Rutherford of Old Town, ME and Emily and Lucas Rutherford of Bangor, ME. A Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, April 5 at 2PM in the Parish of the Epiphany, Winchester. Relatives and friends kindly invited.
