Deila Griffin Benson, 76, of Irwin County died Sunday, March 30, 2008, at Dorminy Medical Center in Fitzgerald.
Funeral services will be held at 11 A.M., Wednesday, April 2, 2008 at the Bethlehem Baptist Church, Irwin County with the Rev. John Gibbs, Jr. officiating. Interment will follow in Bethlehem Cemetery, Irwin County. The family will receive friends from 7 until 9 Tuesday evening at the funeral home in Ocilla.
Mrs. Benson was born September 5, 1931 in Irwin County, Georgia to the late Toombs Thomas and Versa Cola Mixon Griffin. She had lived all of her life in Irwin County and was a graduate of Irwin County High School. She was a former nurse’s aid and worked for Irwin Manufacturing. She was co-owner/operator of Farmer’s Cold Storage in Ocilla. Mrs. Benson was a member of Bethlehem Baptist Church and a member of the adult choir. She also enjoyed being a part of the Bernhardt Singers.
She is survived by three sons and daughters-in-law: Edwin Cecil Benson, Tommy Lee & Teresa Benson, and David & Dianne Benson, all of Ocilla; eight grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband: Cecil M. Benson and a brother: W.O. Griffin.
