Joyce A. Mahoney
...formerly of Tewksbury, worked at Kresge 5 & 10; 81
Chester, ME - Joyce A. (Roper) Mahoney, age 81, a lifelong Tewksbury resident, died Sunday, March 30, at the Cummings Health Care Center in Howland, Maine, following a long period of declining health.  She was the wife of  Alan Mahoney, who died on December 10, 2007.
She was born in Tewksbury, July 22, 1926, a daughter of the late Chester and Dorothy (Pierce) Roper.  She was raised in Tewksbury, graduated from Tewksbury High School, and lived all her life in town. She had moved to Maine for health reasons and her niece's support five years ago.
She worked as a clerk in the toy department of downtown Lowell's Newberry's department store, and later, retired from Kresge's Five and Dime store.

She was an active lifetime member of the Tewksbury Congregational Church, where she was a member of the Ladies Aid, and formerly the Friendly Guild.  She also participated in church fairs as a crafter.

She is survived by a brother and sister-in-law, Dr. Gerald C. and Barbara (Sughrue) Roper of FL;  nephews Richard and Daniel Greenwood and Jay Roper; nieces Jill Lott, and Joy Twomey of Chester, Maine, with whom she lived; many grand nieces and grand nephews; and dear friends in Tewksbury. She was also sister of the late Dorothy Greenwood and June Roper.
Her Funeral Service was held Saturday, April 5, in the Tewksbury Congregational Church, Tewksbury Center. Burial followed at Tewksbury Cemetery.
