Kathleen M. Rafferty, 78

Kathleen M. “Mona” (Murray) Rafferty, 78, of Norton formerly of Weymouth and Somerville died on Friday March 28, 2008 at home surrounded by her loving family. She was the beloved wife of the late Thomas A. Rafferty who passed away on August 27, 1989.
Born in Dublin, Ireland on April 1, 1929 she was a daughter of the late Timothy and Christina (Nolan) Murray.
She grew up in Dublin and was educated in Ireland. Mona moved to the United States at the age of 25, first settling in Cambridge.
Mrs. Rafferty was a loyal and dedicated homemaker to her loving family. A former communicant of Sacred Heart Church in Weymouth she was an avid reader who also enjoyed knitting and playing card games.
Mona received the great pleasure in raising her family and especially being in the presence of her children and grandchildren. She had recently moved to Norton and formerly had resided for over 10 years in Weymouth and was also a resident of Somerville for many years.
She is survived by her devoted children; John J. Rafferty of Dudley, Linda A. Fillion and her husband Henry of Norton, Thomas T. Rafferty and his wife Fay of Haverhill, Mona M. Bieler and her husband Richard of Londonderry, N.H., Claire J. Harrington of Weymouth, Therese M. Goodwin and her husband William of Weymouth, Carol V. Smith and her husband Steven of Chelmsford and David C. Rafferty and his wife Vicki of Weymouth, her loving grandchildren; Kelsey and Jack Rafferty of Thompson, CT., Kathleen and Kelly Ann Fillion of Norton, Timothy and Elizabeth Rafferty of Haverhill, Anvar and William Bieler of Londonderry, N.H., Thomas and Daniel Goodwin of Weymouth, Benjamin and Kyle Smith of Chelmsford and Christopher and Rachel Rafferty of Weymouth, she was the dear sister of Thomas Murray of Sarasota, Florida, Christopher Ryan of Braintree, Edward Ryan of Sarasota, Florida, Arlene Crossen of Wilmington and the late Anne Daly and Renee O’Neil, also survived by her brother in law Noel Daly of Sarasota, Florida as well as many nieces and nephews.
Her funeral, to which relatives and friends are cordially invited to attend, will be held on Wednesday April 2nd at 9:00 A.M. from the Norton Memorial Funeral Home 19 Clapp St. (Off Route 140, Taunton Ave.) Norton followed by a Mass of Christian burial celebrated at 10:00 A.M. in St. Mary’s Church, South Worcester St. Norton. Burial will follow in the Timothy Plain Cemetery, Norton.
Visiting hours will be held on Tuesday April 1st from 4-8 P.M. at the Norton Memorial Funeral Home.
In lieu of flowers, Mona’s family has requested that donations in her memory be made to the Dana Farber Cancer Institute 44 Binney St. #1234 Boston, MA 02297
