SAMUEL L. LIAKOS, a Hull resident for the past 38 years, died on Friday, March 28th, 2008 at the Massachusetts General Hospital in Boston after a brief illness. He was 83. Mr. Liakos was born in Cambridge where he was raised and educated. He was a graduate of Rindge Technical School in Cambridge. He then joined the U.S. Army and served in Italy during World War II. Following the war, Mr. Liakos was a clerk with the U.S. Postal Service for 40 years and worked in several post offices including Boston and Weymouth. In addition, he also had his own ice cream business in the Cambridge - Watertown area. He was one of the founding members of the Panagia Greek Orthodox Church in Cohasset and a was member of the Weymouth Chapter of the Disabled American Veterans.
He is survived by his beloved wife of 55 years, Theonie (Apostolu) Liakos of Hull and was the devoted father of Donna M. Goldstein and her husband Stuart of Weymouth and Elizabeth A. McDermott of Hull. Dear brother of Agnes Coukas and Mary Janos both of Watertown, Leo Liakos of Ohio and the late Spero Liakos. Adored grandfather of Stephanie A. Randolph and her husband Jon of Weymouth, Stacey L. Kibee and her husband Paul of Hull, Alyssa Goldstein and Ashley Goldstein both of Weymouth. Dear great grandfather of Brianna and Victoria Kibee of Hull and Mya Randolph of Weymouth. Father in Law of the late George M. McDermott. Also survived by many nieces and nephews.
Funeral Services Tuesday, April 1st at 11 AM at the Panagia Greek Orthodox Church, 817 Jerusalem Rd., Cohasset, MA 02025.
Friends may visit at the Downing Cottage Funeral Chapel, 21 Pond St., Hingham on Monday from 5-8 PM. A Prayer Service will be conducted at the Downing Chapel on Monday evening at 7 PM by Rev. John Maheras.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in his memory to the Panagia Greek Orthodox Church.
The interment will be in the Hull Village Cemetery.
