Velera Nell Wetherington Peters, 72, of Tifton died Friday, March 28, 2008, at Tift Regional Medical Center. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, March 31, 2008, in the Chapel of Bowen-Donaldson Home for Funerals. Rev. Salone J. Green and Rev. Bill Barksdale will officiate with burial to follow in Tift Memorial Gardens. Jamie Mathis, Nichols Loper, Jeremy Peters, Ernest Dove, Rudy Adams and Chip Royal will serve as pallbearers. The family will receive friends on Sunday, March 30, 2008, from 7:00 to 9:00 p.m. at Bowen-Donaldson Home for Funerals.
Mrs. Peters was born on June 13, 1935 in Cook County and was the daughter of Barney W. Wetherington and Nellie Mae Norris Wetherington, both deceased. She was also preceded in death by her husband, James William Peters, Sr.; and one sister, Yvonne W. Martin. She was a housewife and a loving mother, grandmother, great grandmother, aunt and friend, all of whom she held close to her heart. She was a member of Carpenter Road Church of God.
Mrs. Peters is survived by one son and daughter-in-law, James, Jr. and Shirley Peters of Tifton; two daughters and sons-in-law, Janice Peters Tyson and her husband, Bill, of Tifton and Glenda Peters Seper and her husband, Ron, of Tifton; two sisters and brothers-in-law, Veleta Nell Wetherington Browning and her husband, Lamar, of Griffin and Sandra Gail Wetherington Stinson and her husband, Jerry, of Tifton; six grandchildren, Jamie Mathis, Kelly Royal, Nichols Loper, Sharon Loper, Jeremy Peters and Kayla Douglas; and several great grandchildren.
