Wareham – Gilbert T. Robar, 89, of Acushnet died March 24, 2008 at Tremont Rehabilitation and Skilled Care. He was the widower of Bertha Robar.
Mr. Robar was born in Fairhaven, son of the late Albert J. Robar, Sr. and Annie (Greenwood) Robar, and lived most of his life in New York. He was a U.S. Navy veteran of WW II. He was employed by Dalk Cab Co., Manhattan, NY as a taxi driver for 35 years until his retirement in 1980. After retiring, he continued to work repairing the cabs. He enjoyed the outdoors, horse races, buying lottery tickets, animals, and doing charity work for the homeless. A simple and unselfish man, he found great enjoyment in helping others and spending time with his grand nephews.
Survivors include his niece: Gloria M. Sherman; 5 grand nephews: William A., Harold E., Richard A. and his wife Herenia, Daniel, and Kenneth R. Sherman; a grand niece: Joanne Boynton; and several great grand nieces & nephews. He was brother of the late Margaret E. Robar.

A graveside service will be held on Friday, March 28, 2008 at 10:00 A.M. at the Rochester Center Cemetery, Rochester.
