
Dorothy (Monro) Piercy, a long time resident of Andover and beloved wife of the late George W. “Butch” Piercy, died at her daughter’s home in Andover on Thursday, March 27, 2008. She was 86 years old.
Born in Andover, Massachusetts, on January 3, 1922, she was a beloved daughter of the late John and Jessie (Cairnie) Monro. Mrs. Piercy, along with her late husband, was the owner of Special Transportation. She was a swimming instructor and Red Cross Matron at Pomp’s Pond for many years as well as an art instructor at the Andover Youth Center. She was the organizer of multiple activities for special needs children and also a Den Mother for the Boy Scouts. Mrs. Piercy was also a Sunday School Teacher and Deaconess at the Free Christian Church of Andover for many years.
She was most proud of her two murals of “Main Street Andover” which are displayed in Town Hall in Andover. She also made many other paintings that she did for her family and friends. Above all, Dorothy enjoyed spending time with her family, as she was very proud of her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
She will be sorely missed by three daughters and three sons-in-law, Janyce and her husband Jack Ball of Andover, Ethel and her husband John Golden of Fairfax, Virginia and Dee and her husband Mark DeLorenzo of Andover; one son; Richard E. Piercy of Conway, New Hampshire, one special friend; Victor Brightman of North Andover, seven grandchildren; Cynthia Paolillo of Belmont, Michael Connor of Andover, Michael O’Neill of Fairfax, Virginia, Sean Fitzpatrick of Methuen and Nicholas Fitzpatrick and Anthony and Christopher DeLorenzo all of Andover, nine great-grandchildren and three sisters; Lillian Hoyt of North Andover, Barbara and her husband Jim Caldwell of Andover and Isabelle Hutchins of Wendell, North Carolina. Dorothy was also the mother of the late Lynda Jane Fitzpatrick, sister of the late John Monro, William Monro, Jessie Kulick, Ethel Hibbert, Bessie Vigneault and Gladys Flores.
Many relatives and friends attended her funeral on Tuesday, April 1, 2008, at 1:30 PM in the Free Christian Church, 31 Elm Street, Andover. Calling hours were held in the Burke-Magliozzi Funeral Home, 390 North Main Street, Andover, Sunday, March 30, 2008, from 4 to 8 PM. Burial was in Spring Grove Cemetery, Andover. A reception followed at the LANAM Club in Andover.
