Obituary

Hazel M. (Hinds) McNeill, a lifelong resident of Stoughton, passed away on Wednesday March 26, 2008 at the Tremont Rehabilitation and Skilled Care Center in Wareham. She was 87 years old. She was the beloved wife of the late Tech.- Sgt. Thomas McNeill. U.S. Army.

Born January 7, 1921 in Stoughton, MA she was a daughter of the late Alfred and Margaret (Slattery) Hinds. Hazel attended Stoughton Public Schools and was a graduate of Stoughton High School, “ CLASS OF 1938”.

Mrs. McNeill was a dedicated housewife and mother. She was employed as a Ticket – Taker at the former Cosmos Theatre in Stoughton, where she met her future husband Thomas. She was also employed as a waitress for several years at the former George’s Restaurant in Stoughton.

Hazel was an avid reader, enjoyed planting flowers, painting classes and had a very special love for animals. She was also a very dedicated volunteer. She helped run the snack bar for Stoughton Little League for many years and was a Cub Scout Leader for Den #8 in Stoughton for several years. Mrs. McNeill taught CCD and participated in the folk masses at The Immaculate Conception Church in Stoughton. She was also a member of “The Mothers For Peace” organization in Washington D.C.

Mrs. McNeill is survived by her children, Donna ( McNeill) Cattabriga and her husband Barry of Wareham, Thomas W. McNeill and his wife Beverly of Dedham, Daniel McNeill and his wife Pat of Raynham, George McNeill and his wife Deborah of Stoughton and Alfred E. McNeill and his wife Beth also of Stoughton. Other survivors include her 15 grandchildren, 6 great – grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. She was also a mother to the late William McNeill and a sister to the late George Hinds, Ethel Hixson, Ellen Bishop and Alfred Hinds.

Visiting hours will be held on Sunday March 30, 2008 from 3 – 7 P.M. in The Sheehan Funeral Home, 115 Monk Street, ( OFF RT. 138 AT THE WEBSTER BANK), Stoughton. Relatives and friends are cordially invited to attend. Her funeral service will be held on Monday March 31, 2008 at 11:00 A.M. in the Sheehan Funeral Home. The Pastor Rev. Brian F. Manning officiating. Burial will follow at Maplewood Cemetery, Stoughton. In lieu of flowers, donations to The Children’s Room, 1210 Massachusetts Avenue, Arlington, MA 02476 in Hazel’s memory, would be appreciated.
