Obituary

Alan F. Lyons of Sandwich, also known as “Frenchy”, “Linotype Al”, “Scrimshaw Al” and “The Pirate”, passed away peacefully on Wednesday March 19th at the age of 70, at the Cape Heritage Rehabilitation Facility in Sandwich after battling cancer. Born in Brockton on May 30, 1937. Son of the late Alan F. Lyons and Ruth Burr Lyons and was raised since the age of 11 by his loving aunt Lillian Lyons. He leaves his son James A. Lyons of East Sandwich. He started his career in printing at the Brockton Enterprise and Times as a linotype operator in 1960 and remained in his printing trade until he retired in 2002 and relocated to Holly Hill, FL. Most commonly known as “The Pirate”, a greeting of “Ahoy” as he entered a room was always expected, and he always had a story or a joke to tell. He had a great love for the ocean and anything nautical. He was a talented scrimshaw artist, silversmith, wood sign carver, and skilled bass and harmonica player and will be remembered. Visiting hours will be held on Sunday March 30 at the Richard Davis Funeral Home, 619 State Rd (Rt. 3A), Plymouth (Manomet) from 11 to 12 PM followed by a memorial service at 12 PM. Burial is private. A celebration of “A Pirate’s Life” will follow at the John Alden Sportsmans Club in Plymouth.
