
Alice Allen Powell, 80, of Tifton died Wednesday, March 26, 2008 at Presbyterian Home in Quitman.
Funeral Services will be held 2:30 P.M., Friday, March 28, at First Baptist Church in Tifton with Dr. Wayne Roe and Rev. Ches Smith officiating. Interment will follow in Oak Ridge Cemetery in Tifton. The family will receive friends at the church from 1 until the funeral hour.
Ms. Powell was born December 3, 1927 in Tift County, Georgia to the late Lyman Banks and Ora Connell Allen. She lived all of her life in Tift County, graduating from Tifton High School in 1945. She attended Norman Park College and was the owner/operator of The Grandma’s Shop. She worked in the loan department for First Community Bank of Tifton and Farmers Bank. Ms. Powell was an active member of the First Baptist Church of Tifton. She was a member of the Preacher Class and had served as a children’s Sunday school teacher. Very dedicated to her community, Ms. Powell volunteered as a Pink Lady and served as a Hospice volunteer as well as a board member for Bro. Charlie’s Rescue Center.
She is survived by her children and their spouses: Barbara & Carlos McSwain of Valdosta and Richard S. “Rickey” & Abby Powell of Tifton; five grandchildren and their spouses: Elizabeth Powell and Zachary Powell, both of Tifton, Michael & Kim McSwain and Jody & Lori McSwain, all of Valdosta, and Hannah McSwain of Jupiter, FL; four great-grandchildren: Maggie, Dylan, Nora Lee, and Jake McSwain; three sisters and brothers-in-law: Betty Jean & Pat Walls and Earline Allen, all of Tifton, and Mary Evelyn & Cecil Harrison of Cedartown; and one brother and sister-in-law: Eddie & Christine Allen of Tifton. Several nieces and nephews also survive. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by sisters: Mildred Moon, Orene Greene and Frances Allen and brothers: Henry Banks Allen, Wilson Allen, Al Allen, and Earl Allen.
