Fort Birdwell Fort Birdwell, 80, Clarksville, died Tuesday, March 25, 2008, at Gateway Medical Center. The funeral will be held at 2 pm Friday at Neal-Tarpley Chapel with Dr. Roger Freeman and Dr. John Laida officiating. Burial will be in Greenwood Cemetery. Visitation will be from 2 to 8 pm Thursday and from 10 am until the hour of the service Friday at the funeral home. Neal-Tarpley Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements. He was born September 3, 1927 in Montgomery County son of the late Fort Birdwell, Sr. and Madie Harris Birdwell. Mr. Birdwell was retired from civil service at Ft. Campbell, KY. He was a member of Clarksville First Baptist Church for 69 years.
He was preceded in death by his first wife, Juanita Potter Birdwell. Survivors include his wife Virginia Wood Birdwell and a son Lynn Birdwell (Gayle) of Cunningham, TN. Pallbearers will be Bobby Long, Mark Whitt, F.C. Lehman, William Langford, Don Winters, Robert Workman, Dorman Vaughn, and Bobby Gibbs. Honorary pallbearers will be members of the Neil Bateman Sunday School Class and the W W Camping Club.
