Worcester – John S. Donnelly, 83, of Worcester died on Monday, March 24th in the Odd Fellows Home after an illness.
He is survived by his wife of 59 years Alice T. (Vienneau) Donnelly of Worcester; two sisters Audrey Loughnane of West Barnstable, MA and Jean Pease of Westboro; several nephews and nieces including Rev. John Loughnane of NH, John Riley of Northboro and Christine Loughnane of NH. John was born in Worcester son of the late Samuel J. and Agnes (Moran) Donnelly and served in the United States Army during World War II where he was awarded the Bronze Star.
Mr. Donnelly graduated from North High School and earned a Bachelors and Masters Degree from Westfield State College as well as earning a Certificate of Advanced Graduate Studies from Springfield College. John worked for the City of Worcester as an instructor for over 25 years at the Worcester Vocational Technical High School in the electrical department. He was a member of St. George’s Church and it’s Men’s Club. John also belonged to the Worcester Vocational Technical Alumni Association, National Council of Senior Citizens, the Retired Men’s Club of Greendale, the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers – Local 96 IBEW, the Springfield College Alumni Associations, the Worcester County Electric League and was also a Life member of the Disabled American Veterans Chapter 4.
The funeral will be held on Friday, March 28 from the Alfred Roy & Sons Funeral Home 12 Hammond St. with a mass at 11 AM in St. George’s Church 40 Brattle St. Entombment will follow in Notre Dame Mausoleum. Calling hours are from 9 to 10 AM in the funeral home on Friday. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to Odd Fellows Home Patient Activity Fund 104 Randolph St. Worcester, MA 01606.
