John J. “Jack” Ryan, 87 of Medway died March 23 in Milford Regional Medical Center. He was the husband of the late Isabella L. (Shea) Ryan who died in 1968.
Born in Boston, June 3, 1920, the son of the late Edward W. and Anna E. (Lundy) Ryan, Mr. Ryan was raised in Boston and had lived in Medway since 1952.
Mr. Ryan had been an engineer for the New England Telephone Company for over 32 years before retiring.
Mr. Ryan enjoyed making crafts and had been the owner of Uniqurios of Medway.
Mr. Ryan was long active in Medway Town Government. He was a member of the Democratic Town Committee, the Good Government Association and a former member of the Board of Registrar of Voters.
He had also been past president of the PTO, had been a little league manager and had taught CCD at St. Joseph’s Church.
Mr. Ryan served in the Army during World War II and was a life member of the Medway V.F.W.
He is survived by his children, Joanne Hall of New Llano, Louisiana, John J. Ryan Jr. of Richfield, MN, Claire Bigelow of Woonsocket, RI, Edward Ryan of Bridgewater, NH, Nancy Ryan of Wilbraham, David Ryan of Medway, Jeff Ryan of Littleton, NH, Stephen Ryan of Truro and Tom Ryan of Lincoln, NH.
He is also survived by his brothers, Robert of New Hampshire and Jack Connolly of Dedham and his sisters, Sr. Ada Ryan S.J. of Bethany, Framingham Mass and Mary Jane Ryan of Phoenix, AZ.
He was the brother of the late Anna Ryan, Grace Tilden, Ruth Leahy and Edward Ryan.
He is also survived by 13 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren.
His funeral will be held on Thursday, March 27 from the Ginley Crowley Funeral Home, 3 Barber St. in Medway at 9:15 a.m. followed by a funeral Mass in St. Joseph Church at 10:00.
Burial will be in St. Joseph Cemetery in Medway.
Calling hours will be on Wednesday from 2-4 & 7-9 p.m.
